Gemini Omni brings conversational editing to Google Vids, with major European limits
Google adds prompt-based video changes and personal avatars to Vids, but the headline avatar and non-AI editing features are unavailable in the EEA at launch.

What we know
Google announced Gemini Omni Flash integration in Google Vids on July 17, 2026. Gradual rollout began on July 16 for Rapid Release domains and August 5 for Scheduled Release domains, with up to 15 days for visibility. Access depends on an eligible plan and may not yet appear for every user.
Omni supports conversational editing of clips: changing lighting, removing background clutter, replacing backgrounds, modifying product colour or a character’s appearance, adjusting apparent angles and visual style, and updating voice-over or on-screen text. Google also introduced personal avatars created through a secure face-and-voice capture process. Videos generated with Omni include the SynthID digital watermark. At launch, personal avatars are limited to users aged 18 or older, work in English, and are unavailable in the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Editing non-AI video with Omni is also unavailable at launch in the EEA, Switzerland, the UK, Texas and Illinois. For a user in Romania, two of Google’s headline capabilities are therefore not currently available.
MANAZYR perspective
Conversational editing makes complex operations more accessible, but it can blur the line between correction and reconstruction. Changing lighting, an apparent camera angle, a person’s appearance or a voice can alter a clip’s documentary meaning. SynthID can support synthetic-origin detection, but it does not replace visible public disclosure or the represented person’s consent.
What we’re watching
We are tracking actual availability in Romania, plan-specific limits, administrator controls, consent and avatar management when an employee leaves, and whether SynthID survives export, re-encoding and republication. Output quality still requires independent testing.
