Fujifilm expands ETERNA 55 with a wide zoom; major features remain on the roadmap

Fujifilm announced the FUJINON GF19–35mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR on July 9, 2026 and listed US availability from July 23 at a suggested price of $5,499.95. Firmware 1.10 for the GFX ETERNA 55 has been available since July 15. Romanian price, stock and timing are not confirmed by the sources reviewed.

The G Mount lens covers 19–35mm, roughly 15–28mm in 35mm-equivalent terms, with a constant T3.5 aperture and coverage for ETERNA 55 Open Gate recording. It includes powered zoom, camera-controlled focus and iris, optical stabilisation, 0.8M geared rings and a reported weight of about 2.1kg. At launch, powered-zoom control is supported only on ETERNA 55; Fujifilm promises sequential support for other GFX bodies through firmware. Firmware 1.10 currently delivers general stability and usability improvements. In-camera MXF playback, settings backup and restore, further SDI/HDMI latency work and added desqueeze options are planned for version 1.20 or later in 2026. Auto ND, LANC and Duvo lens control are scheduled for version 1.30 or later, from January 2027 or beyond.

The GF19–35mm adds a tangible second range to a large-format cinema system while matching the exterior dimensions and accessory layout of the GF32–90mmT3.5. The potential gain is faster lens changes and a more coherent rig. The camera’s present value, however, must be judged on firmware available today rather than features promised for late 2026 or 2027.

We are tracking European and Romanian availability, real-world breathing, stabilisation, optical matching with the GF32–90mm and field servo compatibility. For ETERNA 55, we will verify whether the promised releases arrive on time and whether MXF playback, Auto ND and lower latency perform reliably in production.
