What happened
The FFmpeg project released version 9.0.1 on August 12. It is the latest stable release from the 9.0 ‘Lei’ branch, cut from master on June 26. The project’s release policy says point releases contain important bug fixes but do not add new features.
The package includes libavcodec 63.1.100, libavformat 63.1.100, libavfilter 12.1.100 and libavutil 61.1.100. FFmpeg officially distributes source code and PGP signatures rather than end-user executables; the compiled Windows, macOS and Linux builds linked from its site are supplied by downstream distributors or third-party projects.
Why it matters
FFmpeg is an invisible but central component in transcoding, streaming, media automation and many post-production services. The release is not a manual upgrade for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or another commercial application: replacing bundled libraries can break support or compatibility. Integrators should test their codec, filter and container combinations before adoption.

We are watching adoption by Linux distributions, media-processing services and projects that supply compiled builds, plus any regressions or vendor notices that translate the maintenance release into a creator-facing change. General users should follow their application or operating system’s supported update channel.
