CIPA’s first-half camera data shows flat shipment volume but higher value

CIPA’s June table reports 4,356,628 digital-camera shipments worldwide for January through June 2026, 100.5% of the same period a year earlier. Shipment value reached ¥432.563 billion, or 106.1% year on year. In June alone, 713,059 cameras were shipped, down 14.6% year on year, while value was ¥74.301 billion, down 3.0%.

Built-in-lens cameras reached 1,225,977 units in the first half, up 16.2%, and ¥75.073 billion in value, up 15.4%. Interchangeable-lens cameras reached 3,130,651 units, down 4.6%, while their value rose 4.3% to ¥357.489 billion. CIPA says an additional company entered the digital-camera statistics from January 2026, so year-on-year figures reflect a wider reporting base.

The cleanest signal is that value outpaced unit volume, particularly for interchangeable-lens cameras. That is consistent with a richer product mix, but the table alone cannot separate price, currency, regional mix and the added reporting company. It should not be converted into a claim that the whole camera market grew by exactly 0.5%.

We are watching the July and third-quarter tables, whether compact-camera growth persists, and whether interchangeable-lens units recover without value weakening. CIPA covers participating members and their overseas production; it is not a complete retail sell-through count.
