What we know

Blackmagic Design listed Desktop Video 16.3 on August 12 for macOS, Windows and Linux. Its documented new feature is horizontal ancillary data capture and playback support on DeckLink 8K Pro Mini. The official notes do not announce additional new features for the rest of the family.

The update fixes the capture of some HANC packets on DeckLink 8K Pro G2 in 6G and 12G modes, plus intermittent 1080p23.98 and 1080p29.97 playback on UltraStudio Express Monitor 3G. The package lists compatibility with applications including DaVinci Resolve 20 and 21, Final Cut Pro, Adobe CC 25 and 26, and Avid Media Composer 2026, but integration behaviour still depends on each application and system.

MANAZYR perspective

This is infrastructure rather than a visually dramatic feature. A picture can look correct while ancillary data is incomplete, so HANC reliability matters in studio, broadcast, ingest and monitoring systems. Version 16.3 is not a universal reason to update every workstation; its immediate value is concentrated on the named devices and formats.

What we’re watching

We are watching which HANC packet types are exposed through the Desktop Video SDK and third-party applications, real 6G/12G capture stability, regression reports and compatibility clarifications. Production systems should retain a rollback path and test on a non-critical configuration first.
