Blackmagic Camera 10.2.2 brings continuous and subject-detect autofocus to Cinema Camera 6K

Blackmagic Design listed Blackmagic Camera 10.2.2 on August 10. Its documented feature set applies specifically to Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, not to every camera in the Blackmagic range. The update adds phase-detect autofocus, continuous autofocus, face detection and object-detect autofocus.

Operators can configure autofocus transition speed, assign an autofocus-mode toggle to shortcut keys and pause continuous autofocus by holding the focus button. The same release adds Blackmagic Cloud Streaming, four-channel audio recording and pre-recording. The official notes do not state a separate firmware price or credit allowance; cloud use still depends on the relevant account, service terms and network connection.

This is a substantial operational update for solo shooters and small crews: autofocus control, pre-record and direct streaming can prevent missed moments and reduce rig complexity. It does not turn subject detection into an editorially safe default. Critical focus still needs monitoring, and cloud transmission introduces bandwidth, confidentiality and continuity risks.

We will verify compatible lenses, acquisition and recovery after focus loss, transition stepping, behaviour with faces entering or leaving frame, pre-record duration and media load, four-channel routing and Cloud Streaming latency.
